BFACT Scholarship Program Qualifications 
* The scholarship program awards undergrad students based on merit and financial need. BFACT is awarding 2 undergrad students in the amount of $1,000 each.
  1. Academic Excellence: Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic performance, typically evidenced by a minimum GPA requirement (e.g., 3.5 on a 4.0 scale). Submission of official transcripts or academic records is mandatory.
  2. Financial Need: Candidates should exhibit financial need, as determined by the organization’s assessment criteria. Applicants may be required to submit financial aid documents or provide information on their family’s financial situation.
  3. Community Involvement and Leadership: Preference will be given to individuals who have actively participated in extracurricular activities, community service, or leadership roles. Applicants should submit documentation or evidence of their involvement, such as volunteer certificates, leadership positions held, or recommendation letters.
  4. Personal Statement: All applicants are required to submit a personal statement outlining their educational goals, career aspirations, and reasons for applying for the scholarship. The statement should also address how the scholarship would contribute to the applicant’s academic and professional development.
  5. Letters of Recommendation: Two or more letters of recommendation are typically required, preferably from teachers, professors, employers, or community leaders who can attest to the applicant’s character, academic ability, and potential for success.
  6. Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll as full-time undergraduate students at an accredited institution.
  7. Compliance with Rules and RegulationsApplicants are expected to comply with all rules, regulations, and instructions provided by the organization throughout the application and selection process.
  8. Please fill out the form completely. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

The BAYANIHAN FILIPINO-AMERICAN CLUB OF TUCSON holds and administers certain funds that provide  scholarship grants to college students, to enable the recipients to complete an undergraduate education in the field of their choice at the college of their choice.

A. Scholarship Grants Requirements. The following criteria may include, but are not limited to, the following: prior academic performance, result of each applicant on tests designed to measure ability and aptitude for educational work; reference or recommendations from instructors, employer or professional point of contact who have knowledge of the applicant’s capabilities, information regarding an applicant’s career, academic and other relevant experiences. Criteria may also include the applicant’s place of residence, past or future attendance at a particular school, past or proposed course of study. Preference may be given to applicants of a particular sex, race, ethnic background, or religion so long as such preference does not violate public policy. 

B. Individual Achievement Awards. Individual Achievement Awards, such criteria may include but are not limited to the individual’s past achievements and community involvements, other biographical information regarding an applicant’s career, academic and other relevant experiences. The BAYANIHAN FILIPINO-AMERICAN CLUB OF TUCSON reserves the right to impose additional, minor reasonable restrictions and/or requirements upon the awarding of Individual Achievement Awards and the administration of such grants. Any substantial or material changes will be made only with approval of the BAYANIHAN FILIPINO-AMERICAN CLUB OF TUCSON Officers and Board Members

C. Awards and Prizes to Achieve a Specific Objective. BAYANIHAN FILIPINO-AMERICAN CLUB OF TUCSON’s mission is to provide individuals assistance to achieve a specific objective or enhance a skill. Recipients may include undergraduate students, scholars, or professionals. The purpose of this scholarships is to pay for a course of study leading to a certificate or a higher skill level.

D. Grant Selection Committees. The BAYANIHAN FILIPINO-AMERICAN CLUB OF TUCSON members shall appoint committees (BFAC officers and Board Members) charged with the evaluation of candidates for Scholarship Grants and Individual Achievement Awards. Every selected committee member in charge with the evaluation of candidates for Scholarship Grants and Individual Achievement Awards shall be obligated to disclose any personal knowledge of and relationship with any potential grantee under consideration in the award process, including without limitation a conflict of interest and confidentiality policy. Fund Donor-advisors are not allowed to make decisions to a funds or have the influence on the selections of candidates receiving the scholarship achievement Awards. For example, Donor-advisors shall not be allowed to suggest or appoint a committee who can make majority of the decision in such selection of the Scholarship awards. The BAYANIHAN FILIPINO-AMERICAN CLUB OF TUCSON Officers and Board may authorize staff to approve any or all of the grants made under this policy described in IRC § 4946(a)

E. Application and Nomination Process. Applicants for Scholarships Awards shall be required to submit application forms and supporting materials to the BAYANIHAN FILIPINO-AMERICAN CLUB OF TUCSON website at Info@bfac.org. The scholarship application is available starting February 15, 2024, and ends June 20, 2024. F. Special Procedures. The Scholarship Grant will be paid directly to the deserving candidate. Grantees is required to provide a report in addition to the scholarship application or prior to receiving the scholarship award. This report must include verification of the educational institution, grantee’s courses taken, and grades received (if any) in each academic period. This additional information is a confirmation that the scholarship grant is being used based on the purposes of such grant. This requirement is in accordance to IRC § 117(b)(2)
